The modern world demands rapid detection and identification of security threats. In both military and civilian applications it is essential to provide sensitive and accurate detection. Stratophase’s SpectroSens technology and products provide immuoassay based optical detection systems which have the potential to detect both chemical and biological threats on a single platform. SpectroSens combines the best of existing immunoassay technology with rapid optical detection. Compared to other optical detection techniques such as Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR), SpectroSens offers greater selectivity against false detection events and background interference, much greater robustness, self-referenced to minimise temperature effects, as well as detection arrays on a single chip.

In addition to the SpectroSens products described above,
Stratophase mid IR lasers and crystals find appliactions in the
security sector. A large number
of chemicals can be detected through their characterisic absoption
at mid-infrared colours, in the 1.5 – 5µm
region of the optical spectrum. The same region of the optical spectrum
is also used to detect signatures of jet engines.
Consequently, because they can be used to remotely detect chemicals and
jam heat-seeking missiles, high power lasers in this spectral
region
are increasingly important.
