Wavelength Conversion Applications
Key Benefits
- High efficiency
- Robust solid state solution
- OEM and field unit compatible
- Blue to mid infra-red
- Tunablity
Historically, laser applications have been limited by the restricted number of laser wavelengths or colours that are conveniently available. Many promising laser applications have also not seen commercial deployment due to the fragile and complex nature of the laboratory based laser sources previously used to access some wavelength regions. Stratophase's periodically polled lithium niobate technology (PPLN) solves these problems by providing a robust method of converting the output of existing solid state lasers to different wavelengths therefore enabling access to areas of the colour spectrum not previously easily available. This reliable, compact, solid state technology also means these new wavelengths can be deployed outside the laboratory in OEM and field deployed equipment.
The flexible
nature of Stratophase's approach means it can be
used
for a wide range of non-linear wavelength conversion processes
including frequency
doubling, difference
frequency generation, sum
frequency generation, optical
parametric oscillation and optical
parametric amplification. These processes can be used to
convert
low cost lasers, such as semiconductor laser diodes, to visible red
green and blue colours for display or biomedical fluorescence
excitation sources. Alternatively a different non-linear process
can be used to convert solid state Nd:YAG lasers to the mid infra-red
region for
remote sensing and
chemical
spectroscopy applications.
Tuneable sources can also be obtained, especially in the mid
infra-red region, using the same lithium niobate platform.
In
order to provide maximum compatibility with your wavelength
conversion application Stratophase supply PPLN solutions in
many different formats. Individual crystals matched to
your existing laser are available for customer integration. Crystal
mounting solutions and temperature control
systems are also available as sub-systems to aid
this
integration. Additionally, Stratophase supplies a complete
mid-infrared laser source which combines a solid
state laser
and PPLN
conversion technology in a ready to use package.
