The Company’s business is the development of optical waveguide circuit and non-linear optical technologies licensed from the world-leading Optoelectronics Research Centre at the University of Southampton. Stratophase Limited started trading in 2003 as a research spin-out from the University, and now works closely with its customers supplying a wide range of markets and applications with innovative sensing, detection, wavelength conversion and laser systems.

The SpectroSens division is focused on developing biological and chemical detection solutions for biomedical, pharmaceutical, security and process controll applications.  In parallel the Wavelength Conversion Division provides a range of individual optical components and accessories for wavelength conversion and complete laser systems. These wavelength conversion products yield low-cost, robust solutions for the important mid-IR region of the spectrum which is the subject of growing excitement for chemical detection, spectroscopy and laboratory use. The PPLN crystals also provide an efficient and cost-effective method of converting the wavelength of low cost lasers to wavelengths that are more difficult to access in the blue and visible light ranges. Applications include biomedical fluorescence, and displays.

Stratophase is committed at all times to the delivery of high quality functional products, achieved by  investment in knowledge and technology.  The Company is led by a team of professional individuals who bring together expertise and a track record of success to give the Company its unique capability and edge for further innovation.

The Stratophase team is led by Dr Richard Williams who is CEO. Prof Peter Smith is a Director and co-founder. John Knowles is Chairman of the Board. The Company is backed by East Hill Asset Management (Boston), IP2IPO (London) and Sulis (London).

Stratophase have a strategic distribution partnership with Thorlabs, following an investment by Alex Cable who is the Thorlabs’ President. Thorlabs is a leading manufacturer and distributor of over 10,000 optical components, and  enables the distribution of Stratophase’s products to R&D laboratory customers worldwide, whilst Stratophase continues to distribute systems directly to OEMs.

In seeking to grow its business, Stratophase is always keen to discuss new orders for its products, or arrangements for partnerships with organisations which can benefit from its special technology. If you would like to discuss any aspect of our business, please would you contact us.
