Stratophase Key Personnel

Dr Richard Williams is CEO and has been running the Company since 2003 when it started trading following a spin-out from the University of Southampton. He is an engineer with a proven track record, in optical fibers, optical circuits and lasers. Richard has a PhD from Oxford University and, following further research at Oxford, then ran the Optical Fibre Fabrication facility at Southampton. He was directly involved in the development of Silica-on-Silicon and Direct UV Writing technologies. He also worked with Rolls Royce and Rover on the use of non-linear optics for combustion diagnostics. Richard has an impressive technical background which embraces all aspects of the Company's technological expertise. He has been instrumental in several funding rounds.

John Knowles is Chairman of the Board and is also a consultant to the Company. He has previously assisted a number of high technology companies in acquiring financial backing. He was previously Chairman of the Davin Group Ltd, and a Managing Director of MBM Technology Ltd, and has considerable experience in all aspects of managing hi-tech companies. John brings a level of commercial experience to Stratophase that will allow it to achieve its full potential in a fast developing sector.

Dr Greg Emmerson heads up the team working on SpectroSens and UV writing technologies. He is a highly skilled engineer and manager. He has a PhD from the University of Southampton during which he developed all aspects of the UV writing process used to manufacture the SpectroSens devices. 

Dr Ian Sparrow is responsible for development of the SpectroSens refractive index sensors chips. For a period of time he worked as a development engineer in the telecoms industry dealing with integrated optics. He also has a PhD from the University of Southampton during which he developed fabrication techniques for integrated optical circuits, and has become an experienced optical engineer.

Dr Sam Watts manages the team working on wavelength conversion products. He worked on displays for Sharp before moving to the University of Southampton where he gained his PhD working on the deposition of doped glasses for use as optical integrated circuits. 

Dr Christian Rahlff runs the laser development at Stratophase. He is an experienced laser engineer having developed PDSS lasers at GSI Lumonics diode lasers at Point Source. Christian gained his PhD from St Andrews University, studying lasers and OPO's

Dr Peter Smith, Stratophase's founder, is a Professor in Optoelectronics at the University of Southampton. He has worked on many aspects of optics research ranging from laser spectroscopy to integrated-optics and has published over 100 journal and conference papers in the fields of periodically poled materials and UV written devices. He has made presentations at numerous major international conferences and responded to invitations to speak at national and international technical meetings.

Dr Corin Gawith is a consultant to Stratophase, whilst continuing to carry out research at the University of Southampton. Corin is an expert in the fabrication of quasi-phasematched materials with more than 10 years experience of research and development of PPLN and other materials.

Henry Labram is Finance Manger and company secretary. Following a successful career in the international oil industry he brings a wealth of management experience and financial expertise to the company.
