Detection
SpectroSens detection and sensing systems from Stratophase provide complete optical solutions for bio and chemical sensing. Systems include all the required optical elements and support electronics packaged together. The fully enclosed optical path makes these systems simple to integrate into first responder and other detection equipment. The solid-state state design, temperature self-referencing and multiple wavelength operation also makes the systems extremely robust to environmental change and mechanical damage, and therefore ideal for field portability and hostile environment applications.
Unlike other detection techniques SpectroSens
monitors the changes in the surface properties as a target agent
interacts with the coated surface. No tagging or chemical
marking of the sample is required, minimising sample preparation.
Integration with sample handling systems is provided through a simple
fluid interface. This can be linked to most common fluid handling and
sample capture systems enabling rapid integration.
Process control
For process control applications Stratophase offers complete systems of the SpectroSens detector chips, either with integrated flow cells for handling the liquid samples or without flow cells to be integrated directly into equipment. These SpectroSens detector chips are connected with optical fibre to a readout unit capable of reading multiple sensors simultaneously. Output data from the readout unit is presented to the user either directly on screen or digitally to an external PC.
General
SpectroSens detector chips are
formed from a glass surface
with a silicon substrate. They are fabricated in a range of dimensions
according to the application, however 20x10mm chips are the standard.
These
chips can contain 1 or more sensing areas, typically 1-2mm long and
10µm wide.
The sensitivity of the chips is application specific; however the
sensitivity
to bulk liquid refractive index is 10-6, giving
SpectroSens chips a sensitivity
equal to or better than SPR.
Stratophase typically works closely
with its OEM customers
to provide a completely functional and integrated optical system
capable of
meeting the required detection performance characteristics. No optical systems
expertise is required on
the part of either the user or the system integrator.
The key functional element of any
Stratophase detection
system is the SpectroSens detection chip. These chips can be coated
with a wide
range of immunoassays or other chemically selective surface coatings. Detection
chips can also be provided with bare glass surfaces for coating by the
customer
or Stratophase can collaborate with 3rd party
coating suppliers to
supply devices ready-coated. Arrays
of
sensing areas can be supplied for multiplexed sensing systems.
