- Add-drop multiplexors
- NxN splitters
Stratophase's Direct Grating Writing technology for simultaneously writing waveguides and Bragg gratings enables production of a wide variety of integrated optical circuits in a single step process. These circuits can include chirped and apodised Bragg gratings, splitters, combiners and other elements. This enables the production of complex WDM components, filters, NxN splitters, etc to be fabricated in a single device. The production process is completely computer controlled, without the need to produce a mask for each device. This makes the process ideal for rapid prototyping and batch manufacturing, with a very rapid turn around time. Bragg gratings with responses between 1400 and 1700nm, bandwidths between 0.1 and 1.0nm, and performances of better than - 30dB can be included within a single optical circuit. Waveguide propagation losses of less than 0.2dB/cm ensure high efficiency device operation.
As examples of the capabilities of the process we have produced two arrays of Bragg gratings as general purpose products. The DWDM array consists of two chips containing 50 gratings in a temperature tuneable array spanning the telecoms C band. The CWDM chip contains 18 gratings covering the entire course WDM band from 1270nm to 1610nm. Further infomration on these arrays is available below.
