Stratophase

Technology Overview

Stratophase has three proprietary technologies. Our Sensing technology uses light to detect very small changes at a surface - ideal for detecting binding events such as antibody, protein or DNA binding. This technology is highly sensitive to refractive index of liquids at many wavelengths which makes these sensor chips suited to process control applications where monitoring small changes in liquids is required. This sensing technology is based on our Integrated Optics technology which provides low-cost optical circuits in standard silica-on-silicon substrates, incorporating high quality Bragg gratings in addition to splitters, combiners etc. This technique is a direct write technology thus removing the substantial set-up time and costs that are normally associated with integrated optics. The third technology, Wavelength Conversion using PPLN, provides a highly efficient method of changing the wavelength of a laser. This allows the output of commonly available lasers to be converted to other wavelengths which would otherwise be very difficult. For instance common lasers with output wavelengths around 1µm can either be converted to the near infra-red for important applications in chemical sensing, spectroscopy etc or can be converted to visible colours for display and microscopy applications.
